The Edible Forest
Experience Sustainability
At the heart of our sustainability story is the Edible Forest.
Home to more than 300 edible and medicinal plants, the forest supplies seasonal produce used throughout our catering operations while supporting biodiversity, education and sustainability awareness.
Guests can explore the forest through guided tours, discover unusual edible plants and gain a deeper understanding of regenerative growing practices. It’s a practical example of how sustainability can become part of the guest experience rather than something that happens behind the scenes.
Sustainable Events
Many organisations are looking for venues that align with their environmental goals and corporate responsibility initiatives.
At Yarra Valley Estate, sustainability is considered across every stage of an event, from accommodation and catering through to energy use, waste reduction and responsible sourcing.
Energy, Water and Resource Management
Behind the scenes, a range of initiatives help reduce the property’s environmental footprint.
Energy
- Solar panels generating power on site
- LED lighting throughout accommodation and event spaces
- Individually controlled heating and cooling systems
- Double glazing across selected buildings
Water
- Rainwater tanks
- Water-saving fixtures
- E-water cleaning systems that significantly reduce chemical use
- Reduced housekeeping schedules for multi-night stays
Waste and Resources
- Recycling, organics, soft plastics and e-waste streams
- Commercial worm farm processing kitchen scraps
- Bulk-refill guest amenities
- Reuse and repurposing of materials during maintenance projects
- Food waste reduction initiatives across the kitchen and catering operations

We had a great time at YVE, enjoyed the venue, delicious food (!) and it’s been super easy and efficient dealing with you and team on the admin side. We will definitely keep YVE in mind for our future retreats etc, and have no hesitation in recommending you to our colleagues. Thanks for being accommodating to the last-minute changes too.

5 Stars All Round
We held a conference with our Board and Directors at the lovely Yarra Valley Estate. We enjoyed two tranquil nights in the Harrier room and held our conference in the magnificent Garden Room. The food, staff and surroundings were truly spectacular. It didn’t feel like work at all. Absolutely loved it and will definitely book our next work event there again. 5 Stars all round!!

Perfect For an Open-Air Wedding
We travelled from the UK for a family wedding. The outdoor chapel is the perfect venue for an open-air wedding. It is stylish and looks amazing in photos. The food was delicious and service from the staff was excellent.

Local Food and Sustainable Catering
Food plays an important role in every event at Yarra Valley Estate.
Our kitchen team prepares meals using seasonal ingredients sourced locally where possible, including produce grown within the Edible Forest. We prioritise fresh preparation, sustainable sourcing practices and waste reduction throughout our catering operations.
Food scraps are diverted to our on-site worm farm, helping create a circular approach to food production and waste management.
Community and Country
We recognise the importance of connecting people to place.
Welcome to Country ceremonies and cultural engagement opportunities can be arranged with respected Traditional Owner representatives, including the Hunter Brothers and Aunty Dot. We also support local suppliers and producers throughout the event experience wherever possible.
Tree Planting Experiences
For groups looking to make a positive contribution during their stay, tree-planting experiences can be incorporated into conferences, retreats, and team-building programs.
These activities provide an opportunity for delegates to connect with the landscape while contributing to the ongoing stewardship of the property.
